MRS BYRD

If you have read my journal through you will remember the lady I wrote about who lived in Denver, Colorado. She was 97 when I met her and we became close friends.
This is a picture of her with her arm through Sen Hardings arm, (She is wearing the plaid coat.) The other man is her cousin George Christian who was Hardings secretary when he was President. The girl is a friend of Mrs. Byrds and they were at the train station in Marion, Ohio, her and President Hardings home town. She told me many stories about her family's friendship with the president and how she had tea in the White House with Mrs Harding and threw out the ball at games for President Harding. She was a delightful lady and is my idea of a perfect lady. She died in 1994 at the age of 98. Her full name was Susan Garberson Byrd.

What a delight to know someone like her!  I'm sure you miss her.  But you carry her stories with you, and thus she is never truly gone.  -  Barbara

Thank you for wishing me well on my upcoming surgery.   I had my first knee replacement in 2000 and second in 2002, so I know how joint replacement surgery is as your husband is now using his new hip.    My knee's are great.    I really expect this back surgery to be less painfull than knee replacement.    There is a 5 inch incision through the back muscle that has to carefully heal but there is only a small loss of blood.    There is no large cutting of bone like the knee replacement obviously.    I will visit your journal when I am recovering from surgery.   That is an interesting photo about your friend.    mark

Thanks again for visiting and once I get walking it is easy to just keep walking up and down the lane in front of my cabin.  10 times back and forth with my dog Salty makes a mile and he enjoys being out of his big pen.    Have you used - press Ctrl button and turn your scroll wheel to change the type size?   I used 12 point type as I thought 14 would be to large.   However I have another person that is a friend of mine that is in his upper 80's and needs larger type so I am going to email him my entry now with larger type.    Usually I am a photo person with few words and I do use the larger type.   mark

thanks for visiting my blog.  i really liked the story of your little house.  IF i ever buy a house, i want it to be similar to style as yours ( i think they call it 'arts and crafts??) but i love the long porch and cozy look of that style of architecture.

Hello again,   Thanks for your visit and viewing my construction project.    My back where I had surgery is doing fine right now.   I am taking your advise and not over doing it.    I have found that I do not have the ability to do much lifting.    I have actually used an old belt and strapped it around a heavy vise as well an air compressor to move them.    If I am in the standing position I have strenght.   It is reaching down and picking up even doing it properly with knee's bent that causes me pain.    I would rather give up lifting than be in pain.   I hope you and your husband are doing well.    I am not on the computer much and try to answer comment's one at a time.    I do a lot of resting.    I have so much to do before winter.    Building a two story over my kitchen (24 by 24 foot) was too much to handle.   There is also many complicating corner's that had to be made to go around my barn area.    Now it is the porch area that is taking more time.     All my time is spent thinking about how to finish it with the help of my worker that is semi-skilled, like myself.    I pay him a low wage, so I appreciate his help.    Depending on condition's, the project moves along slowly at best.     mark
